En permettant d&#8217;effectuer des tests avec un pilote \u00e0 bord, le Pika offrait une phase de v\u00e9rification cruciale, avant de passer \u00e0 une version enti\u00e8rement radiocommand\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Propuls\u00e9 par un turbor\u00e9acteur <span class=\"bold-text\">Armstrong Siddeley Adder<\/span>, et dot\u00e9 d&#8217;une structure simple mais robuste, le Pika permit de tester, en conditions r\u00e9elles, des technologies avanc\u00e9es pour l&#8217;\u00e9poque. En mars 1948, le <strong>Minister of Supply<\/strong> publia le cahier des charges N\u00b0E7\/48, qui fut rapidement confi\u00e9 \u00e0 la <strong>Government Aircraft Factories<\/strong> de Melbourne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Afin de minimiser les risques et les temps de d\u00e9veloppement il fut d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de commencer par construire une version pilot\u00e9e. Celle-ci devait permettre, avec l&#8217;aide d&#8217;une intervention humaine, de tester l&#8217;ensemble des caract\u00e9ristiques de vol et de &nbsp;contr\u00f4le \u00e0 distance du nouvel \u00e9quipement.
