Construction was composile FRP, powered by two modified GE T-58 turbojet engines. He wondered why he couldn&#8217;t buy a personal jet, and in <strong>1998<\/strong> he decided to create one. Bornhofen has been funding much of the project out of his own pocket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To be marketed as a kit, the Twinjet has a pre-preg eglass composite airframe with carbon fiber control surfaces and empennage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The TwinJet was not certified because it uses two converted surplus GE-T58 military helicopter engines (overhauled and zero-timed).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The TwinJet was designed in anticipation of the FJX-2 engine, which was being developed under the General Aviation Propulsion program. The FJX-2 was going to be a new generation turbofan engine producing 700-800 pounds of thrust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When delays occurred for that engine, Bob Bornhofen elected to use the T58 engines so he wouldn&#8217;t slow the TwinJet development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"maverick-jets-inc\">Maverick Jets inc.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Marverick Air<\/strong>&nbsp;had been founded by&nbsp;<strong>Bob Bornhofen<\/strong>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<strong>1997<\/strong>.&nbsp;The company began to manufacture of the first Twinjet in&nbsp;<strong>1998<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In&nbsp;<strong>2001<\/strong>, Colorado business man,&nbsp;<strong>Jim McCotter<\/strong>&nbsp;aquired a majority share in Maverick Air Inc, renaming it&nbsp;<strong>Maverick Jets<\/strong>, and announced plans to etablish a new compagny, know as McCotter aviation, to develop a six seat, factory built, FAA-certified version of the Leader (ex Twinjet 1500), designated MC 2400.&nbsp;Development has been delayed by loss of the prototype.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"950\" height=\"510\" src=\"http:\/\/minijets.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Maverick_TwinJet_P3views.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3591\" srcset=\"https:\/\/minijets.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Maverick_TwinJet_P3views.jpg 950w, https:\/\/minijets.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Maverick_TwinJet_P3views-300x161.jpg 300w, https:\/\/minijets.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Maverick_TwinJet_P3views-768x412.jpg 768w, https:\/\/minijets.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Maverick_TwinJet_P3views-18x10.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"twinjets-built\">Application<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Four planes<\/strong>\u00a0have been put in the air.
